This horizontal aluminum slat screen is intended for custom deck-edge screening, visual separation, equipment concealment, and related exterior architectural applications. It can be developed from several listed slat profiles and lengths with a satin black powder-coated appearance. The support frame, spacing, attachment, height, and code role must be established for the actual site.

Slat and Finish Options

Separate Screening From Guarding

A deck screen may provide privacy or visual filtering, but it is not automatically a code-compliant guard, handrail, fall-protection barrier, or pool barrier. If the screen is located at an elevated edge, coordinate it with the independently designed guard system and applicable opening, height, load, and climbability rules. Do not remove or weaken required structural elements to install decorative slats.

Lay Out the View and Airflow

Choose slat face width and clear spacing based on viewing direction, desired privacy, ventilation, daylight, drainage, and maintenance access. Prepare elevations from both sides because posts, frames, channels, and fasteners affect appearance. Check sightlines from seated and standing positions. Identify doors, stairs, services, lighting, planters, and furniture that may interfere with the screen footprint.

Design for Exterior Movement

Confirm slat span, frame spacing, wind exposure, thermal expansion, end clearance, drainage, and fastening method. Long aluminum pieces move with temperature and should not be rigidly trapped without a suitable detail. Prevent water from collecting in hollow sections or closed channels. Isolate aluminum from incompatible metals and treated materials using the project-specified method.

Approve Surface and Packing

State alloy/temper requirement, profile, cut length, end caps, color code, gloss, pretreatment, coating system, and acceptable touch-up. Review a physical sample under site lighting. Require protective separators and labeled bundles so long slats do not rub, bend, or become mixed by profile. Plan unloading and dry storage before shipment arrives.
