This horizontal aluminum slat window screen is an exterior architectural screening element for visual control, shading concepts, facade rhythm, or concealment around selected openings. It is not insect mesh, glazing, a window guard, or a substitute for the performance of the underlying window. Profile, projection, spacing, frame, attachment, and finish must be defined for each opening.

Survey the Window Opening

Record masonry or frame dimensions at several points, substrate type, sill projection, head condition, reveals, nearby services, drainage paths, and required stand-off. Do not assume the opening is square. Identify how the window must open, clean, drain, receive maintenance, or serve emergency egress. The screen layout should preserve every required function and avoid contact with glass or operable hardware.

Set Slat Orientation and Spacing

Use elevations and sections to establish profile face, angle if any, clear gap, depth, and viewing direction. A wider slat or smaller gap may increase visual screening but can also reduce daylight, airflow, and outside view. Evaluate the design from interior and exterior positions and at relevant sun angles. If solar performance is important, use project-specific analysis instead of assuming a generic shading percentage.

Engineer Attachments and Wind Resistance

Confirm frame members, brackets, anchors, edge distances, substrate capacity, corrosion isolation, thermal movement, and design wind pressure with the responsible professional. Long horizontal slats may need intermediate support. Maintain facade waterproofing and drainage, and coordinate penetrations with the envelope contractor. Decorative screening must not create an unsafe falling-object or egress condition.

Finish and Maintenance Access

Specify aluminum alloy/temper, profile tolerance, satin black color reference, gloss, pretreatment, coating system, cut-end treatment, and acceptable repair. Provide removable panels or access clearances where glass, seals, anchors, or facade surfaces require future service. Approve a sample and one representative opening before releasing a larger facade batch.
