Confirm whether the job calls for 9 gauge or 11.5 gauge wire and which diamond opening is permitted. A smaller gauge number indicates a heavier wire in this range. Mesh opening affects visual density, roll weight, and the size of objects that can pass through the fabric. If the work must follow a named standard, provide its edition and coating requirements so the quotation can be checked against the correct basis.

Select the Selvage

The storefront offers knuckled/knuckled, twist/knuckled, and twist/twist edge combinations. Knuckled edges turn wire ends back toward the fabric; twisted edges form projecting points. The appropriate arrangement depends on fence location, height, access, owner requirements, and installation direction. Do not assume a twisted edge is appropriate near people or animals. Record which edge goes at the top and bottom.

Build the Four-Foot Takeoff

Divide the fence into runs between end, corner, pull, and gate posts. Deduct openings and allow for tensioning, tying, field cuts, and grade changes. Confirm post spacing, rail or tension-wire layout, tension bars, bands, ties, caps, and gate hardware. This product is the fabric roll; those components and concrete are not included unless specifically listed in the sales quotation.

Galvanized Surface Care

Galvanizing is used to protect the steel surface, but expected life still depends on coating specification, handling, installation damage, environment, and maintenance. Keep rolls off standing water and corrosive materials during storage. Review cut ends and damaged areas using the project-approved repair procedure. Avoid claims that the completed fence is rust-proof when the coating class and exposure have not been confirmed.
