Powder-coated fencing and gates need care suited to their actual finish and surroundings. Dirt on an intact coating calls for a different response from peeling film or corrosion around a connection. Start by identifying the finish, then choose cleaning or repair with the original specification in hand.
Identify the Coating Before Choosing Products
Keep the order reference, substrate, coating brand and product code if specified, color, gloss and approved care instructions together. A color name alone does not identify the coating chemistry or repair system. - Keep the work area clear. Arrange for powered gates to be made safe under their operating instructions before cleaning near moving components.
- Work on a cool surface. Gently wet and remove loose dirt rather than rubbing dry grit across the finish.
- Use an approved mild detergent with a clean, soft cloth or sponge. Test the approved method on a discreet area before treating the visible face.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water, without directing water into operators, electrical enclosures or other water-sensitive components.

Review the site's actual deposits and exposure with the coating supplier, including sheltered areas where dirt remains. Decide Whether Touch-Up Is Appropriate
Photograph a scratch or chip before altering it. Note whether metal is exposed and whether the surrounding film is intact. Request an approved repair system, preparation instructions and acceptance criteria before work begins.

Escalate Suspected Coating Failure
Stop cleaning or cosmetic repair when film lifts, blisters, peeling spreads or corrosion returns. Do not scrape away evidence before review. Prepare this support checklist:
- Order reference, installation location, affected quantity and first-observed date.
- Overall and close-up photographs showing damage, nearby joints and an unaffected comparison area.
- Known impacts, cutting, welding, chemical contact or changes in site exposure.
- Cleaning and repair history, including products used and any available coating records.
