Casting is useful when the part shape would be slow, wasteful, or expensive to cut from solid stock. The important question is not only whether a foundry can pour metal. For a project buyer, the real question is whether the supplier can read the drawing, plan the pattern, control the casting route, leave the right machining allowance, and deliver a part that fits the next step.

Where custom casting fits

Casting makes sense when the part has ribs, bosses, cavities, heavy walls, curved forms, or a shape that would remove too much material in machining. It is also useful when the buyer needs a rough part that can later be machined into functional faces, bearing seats, holes, grooves, or mounting surfaces.

For U.S. buyers and project managers, a useful casting quote starts with a controlled drawing package. A photo or sample can help, but the purchase decision should still come back to material, dimensions, tolerance, surface condition, inspection, and what happens after the pour.

From customer drawing to shop drawing

A casting drawing is not always ready for the shop floor. EONE can review the customer drawing and help convert it into a practical manufacturing reference: parting direction, pattern route, draft, shrinkage allowance, machining stock, riser and gate planning, cleaning, and the features that should be held for final machining.

For one-off or special geometry work, lost-foam pattern making may be a practical route. For repeat orders or parts that need stable reproduction over time, a wood pattern can make more sense. The right choice depends on quantity, size, geometry, tolerance, surface expectation, and whether the program may repeat later.

First article, machining, and project control

For smaller parts, a first piece can be supplied for buyer review before moving into quantity production. That sample is useful for checking fit, surface expectation, machining allowance, and any drawing details that are easier to judge with the part in hand.

For larger or higher-risk projects, we welcome factory visits and technical discussions before the order is placed. A visit is often the fastest way to review drawings, tooling direction, inspection expectations, machining sequence, packing, and whether EONE is the right manufacturing partner for the project.

Send the drawing, target material, quantity, critical dimensions, required finish, and where the part will be used. If you only have a sample or an older drawing, send that too.
