Give every opening a job
For a property with several entrances, begin with an opening schedule. Assign an identifier to the driveway, service entrance, garden access, and courtyard gate. Describe who uses each opening, how often it is used, and what must pass through it. This creates a more reliable basis for comparing EONE's gate and entry options than applying one favorite design everywhere.
Keep clear passage dimensions distinct from the outside dimensions of the gate assembly. Posts, wall finishes, hardware, and leaf positions can affect the space available after installation. Ask the site team to verify finished dimensions rather than relying on measurements taken before paving or masonry is complete.
Survey the operating envelope
A front elevation cannot show all the conflicts. Include a plan with vehicle turning paths, pedestrian routes, walls, landscaping, parking, and the gate's fully open position. Mark the places where delivery vehicles wait without obstructing another entrance or public circulation.
- For sliding gates, record the complete side travel zone and the proposed support arrangement.
- For swing gates, show both leaf arcs and their relationship to paving, walls, and parked vehicles.
- For walk-through gates, review the approach, latch side, and usable passage after hardware is fitted.
- For paired courtyard gates, identify the daily active leaf and any occasional full-opening requirement.
Supply site levels along the travel path and at the supports. A rigid gate should not be assumed to bend or rake with the ground. The designer may need a different opening location, site-specific leaf geometry, or changes to the adjacent construction. Posts and foundations require review for the actual gate and ground conditions.
Assign the safety and interface reviews
Have the responsible professionals confirm applicable accessibility, egress, pool-barrier, and automated-gate requirements for each opening. The U.S. Access Board's gate guidance is a useful starting point for accessible routes, while ASTM F2200 addresses automated vehicular gate construction. These are different use cases, not interchangeable labels for all gates.
For powered vehicle entrances, involve the operator installer before final fabrication. Establish responsibility for the operator, protective devices, controls, electrical work, commissioning, and maintenance instructions. Decorative panels and mounting provisions alone are not a complete commissioned system.
Coordinate a matched supply package
Ask for finish samples across the proposed gate types, and record the material and coating specification rather than color alone. Define post caps, handles, locks, hinges, and any adjoining fence interfaces in the same schedule. Clearly identify parts supplied by others, including anchors where substrate-specific selection is needed.
Compare quotations against that schedule. Request separate treatment of optional accessories, sample approvals, packing, and transport so a lower initial figure does not hide a different supply boundary. Make the receiving plan part of the order
Door-to-door or site delivery can be arranged under the agreed quotation. Provide the delivery address, access restrictions, available unloading equipment, and receiving hours. Installation, crane service, every accessory, and import duties are not automatically included; any DDP arrangement and named destination must be stated in writing.
