Selecting Fence Posts and Caps for the Site

Coordinate post sections, foundations, base plates, and cap fit with the actual fence layout. Separate structural approval from dimensional and finish checks.

Prepare a post schedule by location

Line, end, corner, and gate positions do not necessarily use the same post. Mark them on the layout and identify the fence or gate each supports. Include panel height, infill, attachment elevations, openings, and any future screen or sign in the design brief.

Review the EONE posts and caps range against that schedule. A steel Y post for a wire-fence line and a flanged square post for an ornamental panel need different selection data. Neither should be promoted to a gate support merely because a longer version is available.

Define the supporting construction

For driven or embedded posts, provide ground conditions, exposed height, terminal details, and the approved installation design. Do not infer embedment from stock length alone. For a flanged post, provide the plate dimensions, weld arrangement, hole pattern, substrate, and approved anchorage detail.

The listed 65 x 65 x 2700 mm Garrison post with flange kit is a dimensional reference, not an engineered base assembly. Confirm wall thickness, plate and weld details, and accessory contents. Anchors must suit the actual supporting construction and project loads; a generic product image is not an anchor schedule.

ASTM F1043 identifies added screening and signage as relevant to windload review. Ask the responsible designer to consider those additions before approving post size or spacing. A taller post, larger cap, or extra clamp cannot independently resolve a deficient fence design.

Translate the site into connection geometry

Survey mounting surfaces, changes in elevation, nearby curbs, drainage, and delivery access. Where the fence design is stepped or raked, the post and bracket schedule should reflect the approved panel geometry. Do not bend rigid panels or posts to imitate the ground profile.

At surface-mounted bases, resolve level, plate bearing, waterproofing, and drainage through the approved detail. Gate posts need additional coordination with opening clearance, hinge loads, and foundations. Posts supplied as components do not replace that project review.

Match each cap to the actual post

  • Measure outside faces or diameter, corner radius, coating buildup, and the top-end condition.
  • Record cap internal opening, seating depth, retention method, and clearance from nearby fittings.
  • Keep nominal inch and metric names separate from measured dimensions.
  • Use a profile-specific cover where required; do not assume a hollow-post cap fits a Y post.

The nominal 2-1/2 inch cap sample and a nominal 65 mm post should be trial-fitted, not automatically paired. Request representative samples and record the accepted finished dimensions. A cap fit check approves that interface only, not the structural assembly.

Coordinate finish, packing, and delivery

Specify post and cap finish together, including color, gloss, pretreatment, and agreed corrosion-protection requirements. Identify whether caps ship fitted or separately, how coated faces are separated, and how long posts are bundled. Count caps, brackets, and fasteners independently on the packing list.

EONE can review custom lengths and interfaces and arrange door-to-door or site delivery under the written quote. Confirm vehicle access, bundle handling, receiving appointments, and unloading equipment. Installation, crane service, duties, and all accessories are not automatically included. Submit the post schedule, cap requirements, and site details for a coordinated quotation.
